Innovation key to NE industry: state councilor

 　　HARBIN, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong has called for greater technological¹ innovation to rejuvenate² traditional industrial bases in northeast provinces.

　　Northeastern industry rejuvenation³ has entered a "crucial stage," and technological innovation should be established as a main driver for future development, Liu said during a visit to Heilongjiang province on Sunday.

　　Liu urged more efforts be taken to make breakthroughs in core technology and boost key sectors⁴ as well as strategic emerging industries.

　　She called on local authorities to encourage cooperation among research institutes, universities and enterprises and improve services to innovative⁵ enterprises, especially to small and medium-sized companies.

　　She also asked for increased input⁶ in research and development and demanded more training of talented people.
