Chile playmaker Valdivia commits to Palmeiras

 RIO DE JANEIRO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chile international midfielder Jorge Valdivia has ended speculation¹ about his future by agreeing to remain at Brazilian club Palmeiras for at least another year.

Valdivia vowed² never to play in Brazil again after he and his wife were briefly³ kidnapped and robbed in Sao Paulo last month.

"There has been a lot of talk about him, but he is going to stay with us and complete his contract," Palmeiras vice-president Roberto Frizzo said on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old has admitted to being emotionally traumatized by the incident.

But he returned from a three-week absence to play a key role in Palmeiras' Copa do Brasil triumph with a goal in the first leg of the final against Coritiba.

Valdivia's wife and two children, who travelled to Santiago to be with relatives following the ordeal⁴, are expected to return to Sao Paulo this week.
