秘鲁空中交通管制员开始72小时罢工

 　　LIMA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Air traffic controllers in Peru started Wednesday a 72-hour strike demanding wage increase, better working conditions and a reduction of work hours.

　　The strike in air traffic control and related services is partially¹ affecting both domestic and international flights at the Jorge Chavez International Airport in the capital city of Lima.

　　Cesar Palacios, leader of the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Aviation union, said workers held a sit-in at the entrance to the southern wing of the main air terminal of the airport.

　　"Nationwide, operative and administrative² workers are holding this strike in view of management's refusal to arrive at a solution," Palacios said.

　　He said air traffic controllers earn from 359 U.S. dollars to 1,258 U.S. dollars a month, adding some of them have to work 16 hours a day due to lack of staff.

　　The Peruvian government, meanwhile, has declared a state of emergency for aeronautical³ navigation in the area, as it was confirmed by Ramon Gamarra, director of Civil Aeronautics⁴ at the Ministry⁵ of Transportation and Communication.

　　A decree was issued to authorize⁶ Peruvian Air Force personnel to temporarily replace the striking workers.
