Ctrip International, the Chinese online travel service provider, has agreed to buy Skyscanner, the airfare comparison web site, for approximately ￡1.4bn.

The deal adds to the $191bn worth of Chinese overseas acquisitions that were announced during the first nine months of this year, with a number of those deals taking place in the travel and entertainment industries.

Gareth Williams, Skyscanner’s co-founder and chief executive said there was a “huge amount” the company could learn from Ctrip, which is the market leader in China.
