The New South Wales Premier¹ has ordered an urgent meeting to try to get the convicted paedophile Dennis Ferguson moved out of public housing. Nathan Rees says he wants to explore all options and legal advice available in an attempt to force Ferguson from a unit at Ryde in Sydney’s northwest. This comes amid newspaper reports that Ferguson has been selling toys for Diabetes² Australia without police approval.

The Federal Government has defended its push to have Telstra broken up. It says the move to separate Telstra’s retail³ and wholesale⁴ businesses will lead to greater competition. Shareholders⁵ have been angered by the decision which wiped almost 2 billion dollars from the company shares yesterday.

A World Bank report has called for urgent action on climate change. The bank also says rich, high carbon emitting countries, like Australia, should fund research into clean energy technology. Climate Change Minister Penny Wong is on her way to the US to meet other world leaders to discuss options for a climate deal.

And in the US, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has signaled the American economy is on the road to recovery. He says the US recession is very likely over, but he's warned recovery will be slow and it will take time to create new jobs.
