Well, the weather is battering¹ the country with gale² force winds, dust storms and flood warnings. Large parts of New South Wales are shrouded³ in dust, causing floods to be diverted and ferries to be grounded. Gale force winds of up to 100 kilometers an hour hit the east coast, carrying dust from the state's far west. Sydney Ferries has canceled its services and flights into Sydney have been diverted to Brisbane and Melbourne. Departing flights are also delayed. Strong winds will also hit Victoria and flood warnings have been issued for eastern districts. Meanwhile, in Queensland, a bushfire has forced the evacuation of several homes in the southeast.

Federal Opposition⁴ Leader Malcolm Turnbull has rejected a government deadline to finalize⁵ coalition⁶ amendments⁷ to emissions⁸ trading legislation. The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd issued the ultimatum⁹ during the UN climate summit in New York. Mr. Rudd says he wants to see amendments on the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme Bill by 19 October.

And former world NO.1 Justine Henin has announced she is returning to the professional tennis tour after a 16-month retirement¹⁰. The 27-year-old seven-time Grand Slam winner made her announcement on Belgian television this morning. Her compatriot Kim Clijsters won the US Open on her Grand Slam comeback earlier this month.
