The parents of Melbourne backpacker of Britt Lapthorne have welcomed an Australian review of the investigation¹ into her death. The 21-year-old's body was found off the coast of Croatia three weeks after she disappeared from a Dubrovnik nightclub in 2008. Local authorities have been unable to determine how she died, but two Federal Police officers will now travel to Croatia to reexamine the evidence. Her father Dale says it's a welcome development, but he is concerned that the AFP (Australian Federal Police) will only stay for around 10 days.

More than 100 militants² suspected of having links to Al-Qaeda have been arrested in Saudi Arabia. Local authorities say the group had been planning terrorist attacks on oil companies.

The US is demanding a new explanation from Israel over plans for another Jewish housing development in East Jerusalem. The Jerusalem City Council gave the project a green light, just hours before the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with President Obama at the White House.

Back home and school principals say student morale³ is being damaged by league tables based on the Federal Government's My School website. A new survey from the Australian Education Union shows almost 90 per cent of principals think the website misrepresents school performance.

And Sydney's new elephant calf⁴ will be officially named today, at the moment he goes by Mr. Shuffles⁵.
