 Colonel Gaddafi will be investigated for crimes against humanity. The International Criminal Court will hold an inquiry¹ into the Libyan leader and his sons over violence against the Libyan people. The defiant² dictator has made another attempt to win back a territory in the east. His jets have bombed the rebel-held towns of Brega and Ajbadiya. 

 

Darwin is set to replace Christmas Island as Australia's main centre to house asylum³ seekers. The Federal Government will add 1,900 new beds there, including a new 1,500-bed detention⁴ centre. Two temporary centres in Darwin and Brisbane will now be closed. The Immigration Minister Chris Bowen says the plan will help ease overcrowding. The Opposition⁵ says it's yet another sign its border protection policies are failing. 

 

Julia Gillard still has some work to do to convince her Malaysian counterpart that a regional immigration detention centre is a good idea. The pair met in Canberra yesterday. Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak says he has several concerns about the plan. 

 

The Federal Government's revamped MySchool website will allow parents to compare funding levels between schools for the first time. The website shows some schools get as little as $3,000 per student and the most wealthy receive $150,000 for each student. 

 

And there's no joy for Labor⁶ in New South Wales from the latest opinion poll. The Galaxy⁷ poll puts Labor's primary vote at just 23 per cent and that could leave the party with as few as 16 seats after this month's election. The Coalition⁸ has recorded 50 per cent of the primary vote.
