 Former Bosnian Serb army chief Ratko Mladic is now at The Hague where he’ll face war crime charges. Mladic was whisked from a Belgrade court and onto a plane after his appeal against extradition¹ was rejected. He’s accused of masterminding the massacre² of thousands of Muslims in Srebrenica.

 

The World Health Organization is warning radiation from mobile phones and other wireless³ devices could cause cancer. It says the electro-magnetic fields generated by mobile devices may increase the risk of brain cancer. It’s recommending people limit their use of mobile phones. 

 

The family of a Gold Coast policeman who was shot in the face will turn off his life support today. Senior Constable⁴ Damian Leeding has been in an induced coma⁵ since he was shot during an armed robbery on Sunday night. Three people are now expected to be charged with murder. 

 

The parents of a young Melbourne woman who killed herself after being bullied⁶ at work are pushing for national laws to make workplace bullying⁷ a crime. The death of 19-year-old Brodie Panlock in 2006 has prompted the Victorian Parliament to act. It’s just passed new laws making workplace and cyber bullying a criminal offence with penalties of up to 10 years in jail.

 

And in the United States, prosecutors⁸ have filed new charges against the alleged⁹ mastermind of the September 11 attacks. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four of his co-accused now face charges of conspiracy¹⁰ and mass murder. The new charges will be formally announced later today.
