Police in Thailand have arrested two men over the murder of an Australian travel agent,Michelle Smith,was stabbed to death in Phuket last week,when two men on a motorbike tried to snatch her handbag.The men were arrested on the mainland and being sent to Phuket.

 

Cyprus is joining Spain and asking the Euro-zone to help shore up its struggling banks.The announcement has caused more nervousness in the markets.Shares in Italy,Spain and Greece all fell sharply.The Italian and Spanish markets closed 4% lowers.

 

The Federal Police are still waiting to interview two Indonesian crew members from the asylum¹ seeker boat that capsized last week.The men were among 110 survivors².Police say they want to speak to all the survivors,before interviewing the pair.

 

And thousands of prominent Americans have signed letter urging Ecuador to give Julian Assange political asylum.The letter has been delivered to that country's embassy in London.The petition warns the Wikileak founder³ faces the threat of prosecution⁴ in America,the publishing leaked diplomatic cables.
