 When markets in Europe closed a couple of hours ago, London's FTSE was up around 1%. And theDax in Germany,also doing very well at the end of the trading week, up 161points. And across the Atlantic, in the US, also finishing very positively¹. TheDow up 142 points.

 

And in currencies, the Aussie dollar is worth 103 US cents, 66pence and a dollar twenty Kiwi cents.

 

When employment has received a boost in the US with 165,000 new jobs created inApril. That's according to the latest US non-farm payrolls². It's upfrom the economists³' predictions of around 145,000 jobs and these figuresmean the unemployment rate is now at its lowest level in four yearsat 7.5%.

 

The European Union's latest economic forecast predicts the European recessionwill be worse than expected with unemployment remaining at recordlevels. The EU's economic and Monetary⁴ Affairs commissioner⁵ saysthe GDP in the 17 EU countries that use the Euro will shrink by 0.4% thisyear and unemployment across the Euro Zone is expected to hit anaverage of 12.2% this year.
