 There's been a key development into police investigation¹ into missing Melbourne school girl Siriyakorn Sirboon. The girl, also known as “Bung”, vanished while on her way to school more than two years ago. The ABC can reveal the taskforce set up to investigate her disappearance² will be shut down. The case will be handed back to the homicide squad³. Police say they won't be scaling back the investigation. That development comes as Portugal as police in Portugal reopened their investigation into the disappearace of British girl Medeleine Mccann. The girl went missing from a Portuguese⁴ beach resort in 2007. Investigators⁵ say a review of evidence has produced new lines of inquiry⁶. 

 

An angry German Chancellor⁷ Angela Merkel has hit out at the US over claims her moblie phone had been tapped. Arriving at an EU summit, Mrs Merkel said it was not acceptable for friends to spy on each other. She spoke⁸ to President Barack Obama yesterday who assured her the US was not monitoring her calls. 

 

Fire crews do seem to be gaining the upper hand stilling burning at the Blue Mountains. They spent the night back-burning to strengthen containment⁹ lines. David Black was killed yesterday when his waterbombing plane crashed. Another pilot providing logistical support for firefighers also died when his plane went down in the Victoiran Alps.
