Good morning. I'm Melissa Long here at the CNN center in Atlanta with a look at some of the stories that are happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

It is Wednesday, September 9th, 2009. President Obama / trying today to gain a momentum1 for changing the healthcare system. Tonight, he is addressing a joint2 session of Congress at 8 pm eastern. And this morning, his spokesperson is promising3 the president will give specifics on how an overhaul4 could mean more insurance coverage5 and lower costs. The new proposal from Congress would not have a public option that’s something the White House and top Democrats6 still watch.

A public hearing happens today on a plan to name a temporary successor for the late Senator Ted7 Kennedy. A bill’s under consideration at Massachusetts that would allow the Governor to pick a new senator served until the January 19th’s special election. Critics say / just a ploy8 by Democrats to get enough votes to pass President Obama’s healthcare plan.

The Sheriff’s Department says a piece of bone found near the home of accused kidnapper9 and rapist, Philip Garrido, is likely human. It will go to a DNA10 lab for additional testing. The bone fragment was found on a neighbor’s property but authorities say Garrido had an access to that area. He is facing charges for allegedly keeping Jaycee Dugard captive for 18 years.

In California, authorities say a deadly wildfire burning for nearly two weeks on north of Los Angeles is almost 60% contained. Authorities say the blaze was set by arson11 and has burned to more than 160,000 acres. Officials have increased a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction to 150,000 dollars.

And today is a lucky day for Beatles fans. The video game the Beatles Rock Band hits store shelves. It’s been released at the same time as the re-mastered Beatles CD box set. It’s the first re-release of the Beatles catalog since 1987.
