First up, President Obama is wrapping up four days’ meetings with other world leaders, started last Friday as annual two-day gathering1 of the G8. This is a group of eight powerful countries to get together every year to discuss global issues. Its members are the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and Canada. President Obama hosted this year’s meeting as the presidential country residents at Camp David. The leaders talked about food issues in Africa, political issues in Italy and Iran’s controversial nuclear program. The main focus of this meeting was on the global economies, specifically on the financial struggles happening around Europe. [People’s name(s)] has more.
As the Europe is on crisis and it’s the third year, we thought to shift this G8 summit toward the strategy that President Obama has been advocating for some time focusing not only on government’s spending cuts, on budget cuts but also on economic growth and creating jobs something that is allured2 many yields-own nations for some time now. President Obama has eyed very much on the crisis there during this election year as it threatens to affect the fragile economic recovery here in the US.
After the G8 the US president headed to Chicago for a NATO meeting that started yesterday and runs to today. The leaders of more than fifty countries were at this conference which is primarily about the war in Afghanistan.
At this meeting the leaders are expected to work on the plan for how security in Afghanistan and will shift from NATO forces to Afghan troops. They are mapping out the time frame and looking at who will pay for the increase number of Afghan forces a little take to secure the country. Well, the NATO members are working on that inside. World protesters have been gathering outside the conference. And five men have been arrested in connection with the alleged3 terror plot in Chicago. Police said there are no imminent4 threats to the world leaders at the NATO meeting.
Chen Guangcheng is a Chinese human rights activist5. But he’s not in China any more. On Saturday, Chen, his wife and his two children arrived in the United States. You may remember these names from reports we gave you last month when Chen took shelter at the US embassy in Beijing after his escape from house arrest. That caused some attention between the United States and China. [People’s name(s)] was in New York when Chen Guangcheng arrived there Saturday night.
Chen arrived here in New York University, Washington Square Village is his new home now. Came here by a van from New York Airport in neighboring [People’s name(s)], Chen was escorted from the van and approached the microphones to cheer on lookers who screamed “welcome to the USA.” He’s been through a lot and he was grateful.

There were fifty others who were injured and a large number of people were forced out of their homes by the damage you can see in these pictures. Over the course of several hours, more than ten million cubic feet of rocks slid down the mountain side into the valley below. Officials evacuated12 the area to avoid any potential injuries from these landslides13. Scientists said the cliff was stable afterward14 but it was still classified as a dangerous zone.
