CAN I HELP?

laurance--Hey!What's the rush³?
soony--The bank closes in half an hour and I need to
       cash⁴ a check.
laurance--I can lend⁵ you some money.
soony--I need to cash a check because I'm going⁶ on a
       trip this weekend.Actually,I want to buy some
       traveler's checks.
laurance--Hmm.Can I help in any way?
soony--You can drive me to the bank if you want to.My
       car's out of gas⁷.
laurance--Yeah.Glad to.Let's go.
soony--Wait just a minute.I have to get my checkbook
       out of the desk.

注解：

1）rush：忙碌，匆匆忙忙。以rush构成的短语如，a rush of work/
rush hour/gold rush等。
2）out of gas：没有油了。gas=gasoline;out of表示“没有”
“短缺”，除与be动词连用外，还与run连用。如：I ran² out of
ink.He always runs out of money before the next pay⁸ day.

1 dialogue   

n.对话；vi.对话；vt.用对话表达

参考例句：

• Practise the dialogue in pairs.两人一组练习对话。
• The dialogue went on until nine o'clock.谈话一直到九点。

2 ran   

vbl.run的过去式

参考例句：

• He ran,and then slowed down to a walk.他跑着，然后放慢速度步行。
• As soon as Marie opened the door,the dog ran in.当玛丽一打开门，狗就跑了进来。

3 rush   

n.匆促，冲进，急流，灯心草；vi. 冲，奔，闯，赶紧，匆促行事，涌现；vt.使冲

参考例句：

• Don't rush me. I must think it over.别催我，我要仔细想想。
• I'm sorry to have to rush off like this.我就这样匆忙走掉了，很抱歉。

4 cash   

n.现金，现款；vt.兑换现款，付现款

参考例句：

• Could you cash these chips?可以兑现这些筹码吗？
• I never carry much cash with me.我从不多带现款。

5 lend   

v.把…借给；借给

参考例句：

• Would you lend me some money?能借我一些钱吗？
• They had no reading books to lend.他们没有阅读用书可以出借。

6 going   

n.去，离去，地面(或道路)的状况，工作情况；(复数形式）goings: 行为；adj.进行中的，流行的，现存的

参考例句：

• We're going to listen to a report this afternoon. 今天下午我们要去听报告。
• He hates leaving the office and going on holiday.他不愿离开办公室去度假。

7 gas   

n.煤气，气体，汽油；vt.毒(死)，加油

参考例句：

• I seem to smell gas.我好像闻到煤气味儿。
• There are several kinds of gas in the air.空气中有几种气体。

8 pay   

v.付钱；n.付钱；薪金

参考例句：

• How much did you pay?你付了多少钱？
• His pay is below the average.他的工资低于一般水平。
