It was the journalistic shot heard round the world, our very young Mika Brzezinski refusing to report Paris Hilton news. It's all over YouTube. They picked it up in Ireland, Australia, parts of sub-Sahara in Africa. Mika, (why), what do you have against Paris Hilton?

I have nothing against Paris Hilton. That was not the issue, (what is the issue, exactly), the issue was the story and whether or not it was worthy1 as the lead, that morning.

Now, let's be clear, this did not start out as a stun2 , did it?

No, actually, it's, when did we start? 6 a.m. (6 a.m). At 6 a.m it was the lead, and I just, um, I'm.. you saw it, I couldn't get it out, I just, I just felt stupid, I felt stupid, leading with Paris, and so then, you guy sort of goading3 me, (yeah), and I realized no way. We are not gonna do it, we are not gonna do it.

I resented it (I did); because I love Paris Hilton and I worship the ground that she walks on. But why do you think so many people respond it , this is all over the place.

I don't know, I've had e-mails from around the world, from all, gosh, from all facets4 of my life, from my history, my career, um, and all good, um, for the first time ever, so that's nice, I guess.

What was your next move, you started off , let's go through it, you..

We rejected the story from the get-going , I refused, I took control of my life. Did I rip it up?

You ripped it up, first. (I ripped it up, and then), I seized it from you.

You seized it and then I believe I reached into your pocket and got out this lighter5, (you did), and attempted to burn it. But really…

Against all fire codes, and then…

Right, um, well, we are moving out of the building anyway so. No, but here we go.

Here's a scene now, you, there you go, shreded it right up.

You were like the cop, you subdued6 me, it was very, I thought you were gonna put my arm behind my back, um, but…

I still have that crumble7 of script in my home office.

Yeah, you know actually I think Joe does, ah, I think Joe took it with him, (he sniffed8 a little bit), if you know what I mean. Yeah, it's a little scary.

Now there's been a little controversy9, if you listen to the clip, it sounds like, I may have called you a wench at one point. (You called me a wench ) Do you really believe that I would call you a wench? (I do), first of all, and NO. 2, if I were gonna call you a derogatory term, would I really use a medieval slur10 against you?

I don't know, maybe, what do you think of this? There are something that you wanna tell me?

You are kind of medieval, but in an appealing way, I have to say.

Ah, no, I think you called me a wench, it was all very off the cuff11, but at that point, we were beginning to make a point, and by the time the end of the show came, I had them go into Dannie Brown's office and get the shredder out so that (Yes.) we could really (now that was the stun), that would stick with the statements, (yes), you know.

When you made the statement, the world, the journalistic community has heard your statement, and thanks you, Mika Brzezinski, great work.

Oh, well, thank you.
