H.E. Sheikha Lubna Khalid Sultan al Qasimi is a pioneering woman. She was born a princess of the royal family of Sharjah in the UAE and became the first woman to gain a high-ranking job in the UAE government. She was appointed Minister for Economy and Planning of the United Arab Emirates in November 2004.

Sheikha Lubna is a role model for all young Emirati women hoping to become a successful businesswoman. She was a bright and diligent¹ student at school and got good grades. These allowed her to study for a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at California State University. She completed her education by earning an Executive² MBA from the American University of Sharjah.

Sheikha Lubna got job offers from all over the USA but decided³ to return to the UAE and make a success of herself there. She got a job as a computer programmer and worked ten hours a day. She was the only Emirati and the only woman in her workplace. She moved on to be a senior manager of information systems at the Dubai Ports Authority⁴.

Sheikha Lubna’s talent, skills and experience were spotted⁵ by the ruler of Dubai. He appointed her as head of Tejari.com, a cutting-edge e-ideas project. This was her stepping stone into her position as one of the UAE’s leaders. She is now an ambassador⁶ for her country overseas and an example of what women in her country can achieve.
