Dialogue 1

-Can you tell me something about the committee's meeting?

-Certainly.

-When did it begin?

-At about 8:30

-Who were present?

-All in the office except those who are abroad for an official visit.

-What's the topic of the meeting?

-About the finacial budget for the next year.

-Anything else?

-That's all we talked about yesterday.Why didn't you come to the meeting yesterday?

-Oh,my leader was ill and I had to take her to hospital.

-What's wrong with her?

-Nothing very serious.And she is much better now.Thank you.

Dialogue 2

-Have you been told that Lao Liu is going to resign from the bureau¹?

-I do know about it.He is sure to feel a little angry.

-Do you know the reason?

-He can't coordinate² his subordinates³ well.Almost all workers in his charge complain to the superiors⁴ about this.

-In my eyes,he is very hard-working and responsible.

-I don't deny that,but teamwork is vitally important in modern society.

-I came to you for advice on how to promote trade with China and other Asian countries?

-You are most welcome.

-The chinese government seems to offer much encouragement to develping various flexible forms of trade.An idea came upon me while visiting the World Fair that I should adopt one of those forms to get inside the mainland⁵ territory.What would you suggest that I should do for our saloon car exports to Asia?

-Why don't you take advantage of the cheaper labour and the preferential polices in the chinese coastal⁶ areas?

-In what way,please?

-You can produce the saloon car in China and sell them there and to other Asian countries.This can be done either on the basis of export processing or compensation⁷ trade.

-Hm~I think the compensation trade arrangements suit me fine.Thank you very much for information.

-Let me see~oh~luckily,I think I can fit you in.
