 During this period the fish Conseil and I observed differed little from those we had already studied in other latitudes¹.  康塞尔和我在这个期间所观察到的鱼类，跟我门在别的纬度下研究过的，并没有多大差别。

Chief among them were specimens² of that dreadful cartilaginous genus that's divided into three subgenera numbering at least thirty-two species:  主要是那种可怕的软骨鱼属中的一些鱼，它们分为三个亚属，一共不下三十二带条纹的鲛鱼，

Some big dogfish also passed by, a voracious⁶ species of shark if there ever was one.  一队一队漂亮的疯魔海猪，整整有好几天陪着我们。

With some justice, fishermen's yarns⁷ aren't to be trusted, but here's what a few of them relate. Inside the corpse⁸ of one of these animals there were found a buffalo⁹ head and a whole calf;  它们五六条一群，像狼在乡间那样。
