China's last hope in singles action played on Day 6 at the National Tennis Centre in Beijing. Also taking to the court were the top seeds in both the men's and the women's draw.

With a round-up of the day's action, here's CRI Sports' Paul Ryding.

Agnieska Radwanska overcame Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson and Maria Kirilenko needed just over 80 minutes to dispose of Austrian Tamira Paszek on day 6 of the action in Beijing.

Radwanska's win sets up a clash with former world number one Ana Ivanovic in the quarter-finals later today.

Also through on Thursday was Italian Flavia Pennetta. The Italian victorious1 over three sets to set up a quarter-final tie with world number one Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki made the quarters by virtue2 of a dominant3 6-3, 7-6 win over Estonia's Kaia Kanepi. The Dane getting some retribution after Kanepi's shock win in Tokyo last week.

In men's action, Croatian Marin Cilic and South African Kevin Anderson each made the quarter-finals where they will meet each other today.

Another quarter-final will feature Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero – who eased past compatriot Marcel Granollers in straight sets on Thursday, and Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The top seed ended China's final involvement in the singles action with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-4 win over Chinese wildcard Zheng Ze.

After the match, 21-year-old Zheng - the world number 389, spoke4 to reporters about what he felt he had learned from the experience of going up against Tsonga.

"The most important element of my game where I lag behind Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is serving and receiving the ball. Other area's I think I played quite well."

World number seven Tsonga confirmed Zheng's view when he spoke to reporters.

"Yeah, I think when you reach the top 100 you can se the difference with the serves and the returns, and I think the best difference is really the serves and the returns."

For CRI Sports, I'm Paul Ryding.
