2. Defense⁴ Secretary Robert Gates has made a surprised visit to Iraq. He says the situation in Iraq is a very mixed picture, but he also voiced the support for the top of the US commanding.

3. Palestinians in the West Bank say they are worried now the Hamas has taken control of Gaza. They say they fear the deadly violence there could spill over. However at the same time, they say this could prompt western governments to offer them more aid to keep the militant⁵ group at bay.
