1.In New Hampshire turnout appears brisk for the nation's first primary. All the presidential candidates are vying for the independent vote, making up almost half of voters in the state. Polls give the lead to John McCain on the Republican side and Barack Obama among Democrats.

2.In Arkansas, at least one person is dead after an apparent tornado went the eastern part of the state. This comes after a wave of severe weather moved through the Midwest, causing deaths in Missouri and wide-ranging damage.

3.President Bush arrives in the Middle East tomorrow for three days of peace talks in Israel. Already Israeli and Palestinian leaders have ordered negotiations on the region's most contentious issues.

4.For all those kids who don't like school, don't try this at home. This 10-year-old boy from Mexico dreaded going back to school after Christmas, so he glued his hand to his bed. It took a team of paramedics to free the hand and get the boy to school.
