Secreatry of State John Kerry arrived in Kiev Tuesday for meetings with Ukraine's acting¹ president, prime minister and top parliamentary officials. The visit is a show of support for Ukraine's new leadership as it deals with a Russian military takeover of Crimea over in the southeastern part of the country.

Back in Washington, President Barack Obama said Russia's maneuvers² cound end up driving countries away from Russia instead of closer to it. He said there is room for Ukraine to be a friend of both the West and of Russia. The U.S. has pledged a one-billion-dollar energy subsidy³ package for Ukraine.
