An American serviceman has been killed in Iraq. Secretary of Defense¹ Ash Carter annouced it on Tuesday. A US military official said the American was killed while performing his duty as an adviser² to Kurdish Peshmerga troops.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton participated in an opioid drug abuse discussion where she shared his story of how a former intern³ died from opioid overdose. Clinton was part of a substance abuse addiction⁴ discussion while campaigning in west Virginina on Tuesday.

A UN envoy⁵ to Syria and Russian foreign minister began talks in Moscow by reviving the stalled ceasefire in Syria. Staffan de Mistura said that May would be an important month for Syria and the international community as efforts continue to bring peace to the troubled country.

The Brazilian torch relay for the Rio de Jeneiro Olympics has kicked off after the torch was ignited by embattled president Dilma Rousseff. The 3-month relay across Brazil ending at the opening ceremony on August 5th in Rio will involve 329 cities and 12,000 torchbearers.
