In Florida, governor Rick Scott met with local officials and business owners in the section of Miami where it's believed that more than a dozen cases of the Zika virus have been spread by mosquito bites. The governor also sat down with doctor Thomas Frieden, the director of the CDC.

Police in London said the victim killed in a stabbing attack Wednesday is an American woman, but her name has not been released. 5 other people were injuried in the attack that investigators¹ say appeares to have been motivated by mental illness, not terrorism. The suspect, identified as a 19-year-old Norwegian of Somali origin, was taken into custody².

Hurricane Earl was downgraded to a tropical storm early Thursday after slamming into the coast of the Caribbean nation of Belize with winds of 80 miles an hour and moving inland over Guatemala and Mexco with heavy rains.

And one of Edinburgh zoo's star attractions has celebrated³ his second birthday. The young male chimp⁴ is one of the first of the endangered ape species to be reared in captivity⁵ in Scotland for 15 years.
