 It was only fifteen miles to La Push from Forks,   从福克斯到拉普什只有十五英里，繁茂浓绿的森林几乎一路裹着公路向前绵延着，

The tide line was strewn with huge driftwood trees, bleached⁵ bone white in the salt waves,  海岸线上点缀着巨大的浮木，它们被海水漂成了骨白色，

some piled together against the edge of the forest fringe,  有些堆叠在森林的边缘，

some lying solitary⁶, just out of reach of the waves. 有些孤零零的躺在海滩上，刚好处在海浪拍打不到的地方。

There was a brisk wind coming off the waves, cool and briny⁷.  凛冽的风呼啸着掠过海浪，冷冷的，带着些许咸味。

Pelicans⁸ floated on the swells⁹ while seagulls and a lone¹⁰ eagle wheeled above them.  鹈鹕漂浮在浪头上，成群的海鸥和一只长鹰在它们头上盘旋着。

The clouds still circled the sky, threatening to invade at any moment,  云层依然围在天边，威胁着随时都可能侵袭过来，
