 　　My eyes opened to a bright, white light. I was in an unfamiliar¹ room, a white room. The wall beside me was covered in long vertical² blinds;  我睁开眼睛，对上了一盏明亮的白色的灯。我在一间陌生的房间里，一间全白的房间。我身边的墙上覆满了长长的垂直百叶窗。

　　over my head, the glaring lights blinded me. I was propped³ up on a hard, uneven⁴ bed  a bed with rails. The pillows were flat and lumpy.  在我的头顶上，耀眼的灯光让我的视线模糊起来。我躺在一张硬邦邦的，很不平坦的床上，床边还装着栏杆。

　　There was an annoying beeping sound somewhere close by. I hoped that meant I was still alive. Death shouldn't be this uncomfortable. 枕头很扁，凹凸不平。附近的某处传来了一阵恼人的蜂鸣声。我希望这意味着我还活着。死亡不应该这么不舒服。

　　My hands were all twisted up with clear tubes, and something was taped across my face, under my nose. I lifted my hand to rip it off. 我的手上插满了透明的软管，一根管子一样的东西缠在我的脸上，就在我的鼻子下方。我抬起手，想把它拿开。

　　No, you don't. And cool fingers caught my hand. “不，你不能。”冰冷的手指抓住了我的手。

　　Edward? I turned my head slightly, and his exquisite⁵ face was just inches from mine, his chin resting on the edge of my pillow.  “爱德华？”我稍稍转过头去，他的脸离我的脸只有数英寸远，他的下巴靠在了我的枕头的边缘。

　　I realized again that I was alive, this time with gratitude⁶ and elation⁷. Oh, Edward, I'm so sorry! 我再次意识到自己还活着，这一次还带着感激和兴高采烈的情绪。“哦，爱德华，我非常抱歉！”

　　Shhhh, he shushed me. Everything's all right now. “嘘，”他嘘声示意我安静下来。“现在一切都没事了。”

　　What happened? I couldn't remember clearly, and my mind rebelled against me as I tried to recall. “发生了什么事？”我记不太清了，当我试图回想的时候，我的脑子抗拒着我。

　　I was almost too late. I could have been too late, he whispered, his voice tormented⁸. “我来得太迟了。我本来很有可能赶不上的。”他耳语着，声音里充满了痛苦。

　　I was so stupid, Edward. I thought he had my mom. “我太蠢了，爱德华。我以为他抓住了我妈妈。”

　　He tricked us all. “他欺骗了我们所有人。”
