Libyan PM says new government united in fighting extremism; condemns latest violence

Libyan Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteg is condemning a round of violent clashes between opposition groups in Tripoli's Martyrs' Square.
Maiteg is describing the violence among supporters and opponents of General Khalifa Hifter as "unacceptable."
"Military action must be carried out within the framework of the state and the state is responsible for fighting terrorism. The state will work with the international community in fighting it, God willing. Terrorism is unacceptable in Libya. Unacceptable, unacceptable."
Hifter launched a campaign last month to try to oust the Islamist-led government of Maiteg.
The contested election of Maiteg prompted sitting-Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani to refuse to hand over the post until the matter is decided by the courts.
Libya has been engulfed in political and factional in-fighting since the fall of Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.

Relatives of MH370 passengers raise money as a reward for information

Five families of the missing passengers aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 reportedly plan to launch a campaign to raise money as a reward for information on the jetliner.
The families of those missing are from Australia, New Zealand, India, France and the United States.
Danica Weeks's husband, New-Zealand-born Paul Weeks, was one of the passengers.

Their goal is to raise 2.8-million dollars via a website as a reward for anyone who brings forward information connected to the flight's disappearance.
Campaign "Reward MH370" launches today.
The flight, with 239 passengers and crew onboard, disappeared while on a route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing three months ago.

Challenges and opportunities remain for Pakistani telecom industry

Anchor:
China Mobile has become the only telecom operator to have both 3G and 4G licenses in Pakistan.
CRI's Qi Zhi has more on how the firm can benefit from it.
Anchor:
The first batch of 3G and 4G licenses in Pakistan were issued by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif by the end of last month.
Sharif says it is an opportunity for the country's 130 million mobile phone users to experience the advanced technology.
Before this, Pakistan was the only major country in the region which didn't offer 3G services.
Dr Fan Yunjun, the CEO of the Zong, China Mobile's Pakistani branch, believes that the bold advancement is a result of an increasing market demand.
"I think it is the right time for Pakistan to launch 3G and 4G. As I know now there are 268 4G network have been launched globally. So that means the 3G/4G technology is very popular globally. At the same time, applications, smart phone and the merge of 3G/4G network has become relatively mature."
Zong, together with other three foreign operators, won the 3G license after a long-awaited auction.
The company is also the sole winner for the 4G license.
Though the widely-expected licenses are believed to boost the telecom industry in Pakistan, Fan Yunjun also admits that various challenges remain.
"The first one is the penetration rate of smart phone. Secondly, Pakistan's transmission network, 95% of the transmission relies on microwave, which means we need to upgrade this microwave to support the 3G/ 4G. "
According to a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in the US, smart phones are available in markets in Pakistan at very affordable prices but despite this, the ownership is around 3%.
That is a pretty low penetration rate compared to a worldwide rate of 22 percent by the end of last year.
Fan Yunjun says, the challenges however, also mean great opportunity for Zong and the whole telecom industry.
"In Pakistan, the Internet customer has now reached more than 30 million with a penetration rate of 16%. The potential of this stage of development is very high, and also the growth rate will be very fast. I believe in Pakistan the mobile application will keep the same pace with the whole world, for example Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter, a lot of mobile application is very popular in Pakistan."
According to Fan Yunjun, Zong is now working on to expand the variety of services provided to its 26 million customers by cooperation with other partners in the industry.
The company has already launched free 3G program on a trial basis in the city of Lahore and Karachi.
The exact date of its 3G and 4G services to be launched nationwide has not been revealed yet.
For CRI, this is Qi Zhi.

Shanty Towns Renovation Speed Up to Benefit the Low-incomes

ANCHOR:
The Chinese central government is planning to accelerate shanty town renovations, with the hope of improving the living conditions of low-income residents.
CRI's Xiao Yi has more.
REPORTER:
The Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has planned to renovate 100 million shanty houses between 2013 and 2017, which they say will benefit residents that have been living in the sub-par conditions of the make-shift housing for decades.
"A lot of old people live here. When it rains, it's hard for us to go outside, so we have to pave the road higher; and the snow never melts here in winter."
"All I want is a house that has a kitchen and a bathroom."
"I don't want any of my friends or relatives to visit me. The living conditions here are embarrassing."
This year, 4.8 million shanty houses are slated for renovation.
But in the face of the current economic slowdown, financing is still a major problem for reconstruction of shantytowns in China.
Feng Jun, chief economist with the Housing Ministry, says new methods should be taken to solve the problem.
"First, intensify fiscal support from all government levels for the reconstruction of these homes. We'll allocate the limited financial resources available to better people's livelihoods. Second, financial support needs to come from somewhere; credit funds that have low interest-rates and a long repayment period can go to these projects. Meanwhile, local governments need to verify their financing channels and bring non-governmental funds, such as issuing special bonds, into these projects."
The central government has allocated 198 billion yuan, or over 30 billion US dollars, this year to subsidize the reconstruction project.
That's an increase of 25 billion yuan, compared with last year.
For CRI, I'm XYee.

An analyst with the firm says the downturns in 2008 and 2011 should be seen as a signal the government is unlikely to completely remove home purchase restrictions.

Zhang Wenrong's Solo Painting Exhibition Opens in Beijing

Anchor:
A painter who focuses on a person's inner world has just opened his first solo exhibition at Beijing's Today Art Museum.
CRI's XYee has more.
Reporter:
Zhang Wenrong was born in 1982 in Zhangye, a city in northwest China's Gansu province. Having graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Zhang has completed oil paintings that range from figure portraits to pure landscapes.
Despite the breadth of themes he portrays, nearly all his paintings convey a feeling of quiet loneliness, deriving from Zhang's childhood.
"For instance, I used to often draw trains and rails, but in a different way from other painters. Well, that's because when I was still a junior high school student, I never strayed away from home for more than a week for some reason. And then one time, I accidentally boarded a train. The experience empowered me with more understanding about loneliness, which is expressed in my paintings by trains, rails, lonely deserts as well as other bleak and lifeless scenes."
According to the painter, nearly half of his landscape oil paintings contain human characters in the composition, while the other half has none.
Zhang Wenrong also dedicates himself to figure paintings.
Zhang's obsessive interest in people's inner perception is the source of inspiration behind many of his artworks.
"My figure paintings reflect various emotions. The characters in my figure painting are not any specific persons. I'm particularly interested in the relationship between humans and the environment as well as in the contact between people. Man has many rich emotions, including feelings of melancholy and mutual understanding, which may be hard to express in language but easier to display in a painting."
A young artist of the post-80's generation, Zhang found success with many of his paintings acknowledged and collected by professional collectors and artists. Even the renowned playwright Xu Bing bought one.
Zhang humorously compared his success to the windfall profits that enable him to advance his pursuit of a unique painting language and expression.
"The Realism of Hallucination" is Zhang Wenrong's solo painting exhibition, which highlights his latest representative pieces like "Reading Lenin" and "Wheezing Dog," as well as "Hostess in Her Own Light." The show will run until the 16th of June in the Today Art Museum.
