TopPremier: China not to use yuan depreciation7 to boost exportChinese Premier Li Keqiang has told global business leaders that China has no intention of boosting exports through the depreciation of the yuan.
Speaking at the ongoing8 Summer Davos in northeast China, Li Keqiang says China is unwilling9 to see a currency war, as it would be harmful to China.
The premier says using yuan depreciation to boost China's export does not accord with the structural10 readjustment of the Chinese economy.
He adds that export businesses also want the yuan to remain stable.
Chinese Enterprises Attending Davos Embrace Global View for GrowthChinese enterprises attending this year's Summer Davos, put on by the World Economic Forum, are embracing a global view in seeking growth and development.
More than 290 representatives are from startup companies and small-and medium-sized enterprises.
Overseas economists11 and people in business and political circles account for 60 percent of the attendees.
Chinese entrepreneurs are especially interested in how their overseas guests view global growth opportunities.
Sun Pishu is one of the Chinese representatives attending the forum.
"Everyone has their focus on growth and is talking about it. What's their view on China's reform? How does the world view China and how does China view the world in a larger environment? These are the questions I am most concerned with."There will be more than 155 discussions at this year's forum, with more focus on interactivity13 in the technology zone.
The three-day forum, running until Friday in the city of Dalian in northeast China, will bring around 17-hundred participants from more than 90 countries.
International perspective on Summer DavosFor more on this year's Summer Davos, CRI's Huang Shan earlier spoke14 with Rangarajan Vellamore, chief executive officer of Infosys China. He talks about China's economic restructuring and the "Internet Plus" campaign.
Chinese economy a bit too reliant on investment, exports: WEF Managing Board memberThe World Economic Forum has published its Inclusive Growth and Development Report 2015 ahead of its Annual Meeting.
The report, covering 112 economies, seeks to improve understanding of how states can use a diverse spectrum15 of policy incentives16 and institutional mechanisms18 to make economic growth more socially inclusive without dampening incentives to work, save and invest.
Richard Samans, Managing Board of the World Economic Forum and co-author of the report points out China has been a bit too reliant on investment and exports.
"Yes, indeed, China has a very dynamic economy. But, it has been a bit too reliant on investment on the one hand and exports on the other. And, there are things that can be done to try to build that domestic aggregate19 demand."The Inclusive Growth and Development Report divides economies into four categories labeled "advanced", "upper-middle income", "lower-middle income" and "low-income".
Samans explained that it's time for China to shift its growth model as an upper-middle income country, so that it can become more resilient.
"China has accomplished20 so much. It's absolutely one of the most remarkable21 success stories of the last generation in the world economy. That said, while growth continues to be quite solid, going forward, as the Chinese authorities and the Chinese people understand, it's time now that China, as an upper-middle income country, ... shift the growth model somewhat, so that it can become more resilient and less reliant on swings in investor4 sentiment and swings in demand for exports."He also points out China is blessed with having an enormous internal market and a huge potential domestic degree of purchasing power that can help drive growth going forward.
Among the 26 upper-middle income nations, China ranks high in indexes such as global competitiveness, employment and wages but could improve in aspects including social insurance and health services.
China will Develop Relations with Japan: SpokespersonChina will develop its ties with Japan in the spirit of using history as a mirror and looking into the future.
Foreign Ministry24 spokesperson Hong Lei made this remark on Wednesday.
"We will maintain a steady and healthy development of the Sino-Japanese relations and this accords with the fundamental interests of the two countries and their people. China has always developed relations with Japan in the spirit of making history as mirror and looking into future on the basis of the principles of the four political documents."The announcement follows Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's winning on Tuesday of a new term as president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
Hong adds that China hopes the two countries can properly handle the issues arising in the bilateral25 relations and to promote development of those relations.
Hong also urges Japan to continue to follow the path of peaceful development and play a constructive26 role in promoting regional peace, stability and development.
International Helicopter Expo Kicks Off in TianjinTwenty helicopters have staged air demonstrations29 at the opening ceremony of a helicopter expo in Tianjin, including the WZ-10 and WZ-19 attack helicopters from China's Fenglei aerobatic team.
Civil helicopters that also joined the demonstration28 were the EC135 developed by Eurocopter and the domestically-made AC311.
Also, the medium-sized AC352 civil helicopter made its first appearance.
Lu Weijian, with the helicopter division of the Aviation Industry Corp. of China, highlights the reliability30 of the helicopter.
"The good reliability of this helicopter means problems will be scarce. Even if there is something wrong, maintenance services and spare parts are available. Moreover, we offer training service for the pilots. All of these will help to save using cost."Meanwhile, a heavy-lift helicopter jointly32 developed by China and Russia has made its debut33.
Authorities say the chopper is specially12 designed to suit China's geographical35 conditions, and can operate smoothly36 at high altitudes and temperatures.
A total of 56 helicopters from more than ten countries are expected to be on display at the exhibition.
The event, which is China's first professional expo on helicopters, runs until Sunday.
China Aims to Land Chang'e-4 Probe on Far Side of MoonChina's space administration says it's planning to become the first to land a lunar probe on the far side of the moon.
A Chinese lunar probe scientist has told a forum the mission will be carried out before 2020.
The far side of the moon, or "dark side of the moon", is never visible on Earth because of gravitational forces.
Chinese space authorities say they hope to get a better sense of the geological conditions in that area.
Zou Yongliao is deputy director of the moon exploration department under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
"We conducted the research on the geological evolution of the landing and patrol areas of the lunar rover based on the analysis on the mineral composition, especially the superficial layer obtained using radar37 and discovered that there are three layers of the area which we think may have connections with the three volcanic38 eruptions39 that happened in the Mare40 Imbrium."China became the third country to soft land a spacecraft on lunar soil two years ago, after the former Soviet41 Union and the United States.
A Chinese probe is set to be launched in 2017 which is designed to return samples from the lunar surface.
China, Muslim countries reach tourism dealsTourism authorities and enterprises in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous42 Region have signed business deals with counterparts from Arab countries and Malaysia.
Under the agreements, government agencies and airlines will work together to launch direct flights linking Yinchuan with Amman, Jordan and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Travel agencies in China and Arab countries also agreed to offer discounts to tourists from each other's countries.
Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a predominantly Muslim area, is currently hosting a four-day China-Arab States Tour Operators Conference.
The conference has drawn43 hundreds of tourism officials and travel agents from 21 countries including Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Malaysia.
AIIB Hopes to Collaborate44 with Other Institutions, Doors Open to US and Japan: PresidentThe inaugural45 president of the China-initiated Asian Infrastructure46 Investment Bank says the door remains47 open to the US and Japan to become members of the institution.
Jin Liqun made the comments on Wednesday in Seoul while meeting with the South Korean business community.
Jin added the bank hopes to work with other international financial institutions.
"This institution should be cost-effective, should be efficient, should be tailoring to the needs of the borrowing countries and I think when we work with other MDBs, such as World Bank, ADB, EBRD, EIB , we can reduce the costs by working together."Jin also says the recent deprecation of the Yuan is part of a natural economic process.
"And we are moving forward. The recent depreciation of Yuan is a very natural part of the cause moving towards the market economy, and if any currency is subject to market supply and demand, some fluctuation48 in change rate is quite natural. But I think this strength of China's economy will form the very basis for the sustainable, for sustain(ing) the value of RMB."The AIIB is expected to be formally established within the year. It plans to finance projects in railways, cargo49 ports, and other trade-related infrastructure.
Its 57 founding members also include Britain, France, Australia and South Korea.
Australia to Bomb IS Targets and Take in 12,000 RefugeesAustralian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced on Wednesday his country will launch airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Syria.
"There can be no stability and no end to the persecution50 and suffering in the Middle East until the Daesh death cult51 is degraded and ultimately destroyed. That's what our armed forces are doing in Iraq and we need to do it in Syria too. "Abbott also says Australia will help to resettle more refugees from the Middle East.
"Australia will resettle an additional 12,000 refugees from the Syria, Iraq conflict. These will be permanent resettlement places over and above Australia's existing humanitarian52 program of 13,750 this year rising to 18,750 in three years' time. This is a very significant increase in Australia's humanitarian intake53 and it's a generous response to the current emergency."The prime minister also says Australia will set aside around 31 million US dollars to keep 240,000 Syrians and Iraqis in refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
Refugee Crisis Pushes British Voters Opt27 to Leave EUAnchor:
New polling in the UK is suggesting the current mass influx54 of would-be asylum55 seekers pouring into continental56 Europe is driving more people in Britain to support a proposal to leave the European Union.
CRI's London Correspondent Duan Xuelian has more.
Reporter:
The latest public opinion polling shows 51-percent of voters would opt to leave the European Union.
This is the first time the "No" camp has drawn more support than the Pro-European Union group.
In a research project titled "The UK in A Changing Europe," Professor Simon Hix at the London School of Economics and Political Science says it's the issue of migrants into the European Union that is pushing British voters to want to leave. At the same time, the migration57 situation is adding to the complexity58 of Prime Minister David Cameron's negotiations59 with the European Union.
"You can see the way Cameron is trying to opt out and stay away from any EU migration quota60 or any refugee quota, because I think he is acutely aware that if he is seen at all to accept some European migration quota, the anti-Europeans will jump out and say 'See, we've been told by the EU that we have to accept migrants, the only way we can stop this is to leave and regain61 control of our borders.' So I think the longer the migration crisis goes on, the more it lends itself towards supporting anti-European positioning."Economic researcher Jonathan Portes with "The UK in A Changing Europe" project says of the major concerns among people in Britain is the strain that migrants might put on the country's social services. But the reality is that Britain has been able create jobs just as fast as the immigrants come to fill them.
"So if in a year from now, we actually have refugees coming and they are being successfully, in a planed way, integrated into our society, like we are seeing from the Germans who are making a reasonably good show of taking advantage of what might be seen as quite a significant economic opportunity given German's demographic and economic challenges over the next 10 to 20 years. If Germany is making a success of receiving these large numbers of refugees, that would actually be quite a good thing."Responding to continental European calls, British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced his government will allow in 20-thousand Syrian refugees in the next five years.
Those numbers are significantly smaller than what Germany has promised. German's Vice22 Chancellor62 Sigmar Gabriel has announced that the country should be able to take in 500-thousand refugees each year for "several years".
For CRI, I'm Duan Xuelian in LondonQueen Elizabeth II Becomes the UK's Longest-Serving MonarchAnchor:
At nearly 90 years of age, Queen Elizabeth II has become Britain's longest reigning64 monarch63. On Wednesday, she broke the previous record set by her great-great grandmother.
But Buckingham Palace says it will be 'business as usual,' with plans for only a low-key celebration.
CRI's Poornima Weerasekara has more.
Reporter:
Calculations by Palace officials have determined66 Queen Elizabeth II will become the longest-serving monarch in British history late Wednesday afternoon, surpassing her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria's extraordinary record of 63 years seven months and two days.
So far, she has outlasted67 12 British Prime Ministers starting from Sir Winston Churchill to Cameron, as well as 12 U.S. Presidents from Harry68 Truman to Obama.
Key Milestones69 in the Queen's 63-year reign23 have typically been marked by lavish70 celebrations, including horse-drawn carriage processions and even street parties.
But this time Buckingham Palace wants to have a low-key affair to save tax payer's money.
The queen will only attend one public event in Scotland, where she will open the longest domestic railway line to be built in Britain in more than a century.
Kensington Palace will open a special display of Royal photographs comparing the reigns71 of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II to mark the event.
Royal arts curator Deirdre Murphy says it even includes a photo of Queen Elizabeth II posting her first tweet.
''The display here at Kensington Palace begins with images that compare the two young monarchs72 on the throne. So you have Queen Victoria painted very shortly after her coronation in 1838, looking very young and very regal in her coronation robes and in 1953 we have Queen Elizabeth II, photographed by Cecil Beaton in those glorious coronation robes, again with the backdrop of Westminster Abbey behind her."Both women found themselves on the throne at a young age — Victoria at 18, and Elizabeth at 25.
Victoria oversaw73 the British Empire during its peak — at one point ruling over one-quarter of the world's landmass.
Elizabeth ascended74 the throne soon after the Great British Empire had unraveled, but oversaw massive changes in Britain after WWII and during the cold war years.
Murphy says both women ruled throughout periods of great transformation75.
''I think in lots of ways, the biggest similarity between both women and their reigns is that they have both been incredible sources and forces of stability during points of intense and incredible unprecedented76 change.''
Queen Elizabeth II is also Britain's best traveled Monarch.
Since her first official overseas visit to South Africa in 1947, the Queen has made 270 trips across the globe to 128 countries.
She is also the first British monarch to have made state visits to China, starting from 1986.
Queen Elizabeth II has two more distinctions as the UK's longest-lived monarch and the world's oldest-serving sovereign.
Only Thailand's King is outpacing her as the world's longest-serving monarch.
For CRI I'm Poornima WeerasekaraThai Police Take Suspect to React Progression of Bangkok BlastThai police on Wednesday took a suspect in last month's Bangkok bombing to the site of the blast. The police asked the suspect to reconstruct the moments before and after the explosion.
Police say one of the two foreign suspects in the case admitted to delivering a bag to the bomber77 in Bangkok on the evening of the August 17 attack. The second suspect, who was arrested near the Thai and Cambodian border, showed police where he was before and after the attack.
Police believe the bomber is a man seen wearing a yellow T shirt, captured by security video as he placed a bag at the Erawan Shrine78 moments before the explosion. The man is still at large.
The police say they are looking for four more suspects.
Forensic79 tests linked the two foreign suspects to the explosives, but not the site of the bombing.

US and South Korea Conduct Joint31 Defense82 ExerciseThe United States and South Korea on Wednesday conducted a joint biological defense exercise.
The exercise, named "Able Response 15", was aimed at improving both countries' capabilities83 to deter65 possible biological attacks.
South Korean Colonel Shin Tae-won said the exercise also was aimed at enhancing alliance between the US and South Korean armies.
"The exercise aims to improve coordination84 between U.S. and South Korean governments, related organizations, and military forces and to understand the procedure when a biological attack happens".
The three-day exercise began on Monday in Seoul and involved 200 officials from 40 US and South Korean government and military organizations.

The supreme leader said that negotiations with the United States are "a tool for influence and imposing88 of their wills" on Iran.
Syrian troops evacuate89 NW airbaseSyrian forces have evacuated90 a northwestern airbase, which fell to rebels after a two-year siege.

During the two-year siege, supplies for the troops had to be airdropped by helicopters.

The area covers a planned space of 800 square kilometers.
The establishment of the area aims to boost cross-Strait exchanges. It is also expected to boost the opening-up of the economy, and cooperation with countries and regions along the maritime105 silk road.
Chen Jipeng, deputy head of the office for the New Area, highlights the significance of its establishment.

This will help to boost the economic development of Fuzhou."China has 14 national comprehensive reform zones including Shanghai's Pudong and Tianjin's Binhai New Areas.
Global Investors Seek Opportunities in XiamenAnchor:
Silk Road-related projects have become a popular draw for investors at an international trade fair taking place in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen.
CRI's Qi Zhi reports.
Reporter:
This year's China International Fair for Investment and Trade is featuring some 30-thousand programs the private sector will be able to take part in.
Most of them are connected to the government's Silk Road initiative.
As the guest country of honor at the fair in Xiamen, Bahrain has been trying to promote investment projects in areas such as finance, logistics and manufacturing.
Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of Bahrain's Economic Development Board, says his country, once an important harbor on the ancient Silk Road, is an ideal gateway106 to the Gulf107 region.
"If you look at the GCC, the Gulf economy, this is a 1.6-trillion-dollar economy, expected to grow to 2 trillion dollars by 2020. And behind would be an ideal geographic34 location for the 'One Belt, One Road' policy, for access to that 2-trillion market in 2020."Bahraini Minister of Industry and Commerce, Zayed Alzayani, says they're actively108 looking for Chinese investment in their Kingdom.

It shows foreign direct investment inflows into Asia increased by nearly 9 percent to almost 500 billion US dollars last year.
This is in sharp contrast to a combined 16-percent decline worldwide through 2014.
Zhan Xiaoning with the UN Conference on Trade and Development says they believe part of this is due to the creation of the Silk Road initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
"The Great Mekong Sub-region Cooperation Program as well as China-proposed Silk Road initiative and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which are designed to create better interconnectivity and economic integration109 in Asia, have attracted a growing number of investments from other parts of the world."The fair in Xiamen this year has drawn some big names to the International Investment Forum which takes place every year at the event.
Alibaba founder110 Jack111 Ma is among them.
He is suggesting existing institutions should be transformed to meet the changes in the way companies do business.
"Many people have been familiar with the Internet Plus concept. But how do we increase our productivity significantly? In my opinion, the World Trade Organization should be built into a big-data platform, rather than an inter-government mechanism17. The platform will provide numerous services like cross-border payment and logistics so as to boost free trade."The investment and trade fair in Xiamen is expected to attract over 50-thousand visitors before it ends this coming Thursday.
