 This book is not a memoir¹, although I have included stories about my life. 这本书不是一本回忆录，尽管里面有很多我自己的故事；

It is not a self-help book, although I truly hope it helps. 它不是一本励志自助书，尽管我真心希望它能够帮助读者；

It is not a book on career management, although I offer advice in that area. 它也不是一本关于职业生涯管理的书，尽管我在书中提出了一些这方面的建议。

It is not a feminist² manifesto³—okay, it is sort of a feminist manifesto, but one that I hope inspires men as much as it inspires women. 它更不是一部女性主义宣言……好吧，它有点像，但我希望它不仅能够激励女性，同时也能激励男性。

Whatever this book is, 不管这是本什么样的书，

I am writing it for any woman who wants to increase her chances of making it to the top of her field or pursue any goal vigorously. 我都想写给那些希望进入高级管理层或是竭力追求自己人生目标的女性，

This includes women at all stages of their lives and careers, 不论她们处于怎样的事业阶段，

from those who are just starting out to those who are taking a break and may want to jump back in. 刚刚起步，或是暂时休息但也许某天还会重返职场。

I am also writing this for any man who wants to understand what a woman—a colleague, wife, mother, or daughter,is up against 我也想写给那些想要理解周围女性（女同事、妻子或是姐妹）所面临的困难、

This book makes the case for leaning in, for being ambitious in any pursuit. 这本书充分支持积极进取的女性，支持雄心勃勃地追求自己人生目标的女性。

And while I believe that increasing the number of women in positions of power is a necessary element of true equality, 我相信增加拥有权力的女性数量是实现真正平等的必要元素，

I do not believe that there is one definition of success or happiness. 但我并不认为成功或幸福只有一种定义。

Not all women want careers. Not all women want children. Not all women want both. 不是所有的女人都想要事业，不是所有的女人都想要孩子，也不是所有的女人两者都想要。

I would never advocate that we should all have the same objectives. 我从不主张我们应该拥有同样的目标。

Many people are not interested in acquiring power, not because they lack ambition, but because they are living their lives as they desire. 许多女性没有兴趣追求权力，不是因为她们缺乏进取心，而是因为她们已经过上了自己想要的生活。

Some of the most important contributions to our world are made by caring for one person at a time. 很多人之所以能够做出一些对世界有重要贡献的事，正是因为他们心中有爱。
