A multinational¹ team of astronomers² working at the European Southern Observatory³ in Chile discovered an Earth-sized planet in orbit around a star four light-years away. Proxima Centauri b is a bit bigger than Earth and orbits within its parent’s habitable zone. That will make it the focus of scientific efforts to search for life elsewhere.
