 They celebrated¹ victory, even known the result versus² one-side / Argentina versus Falkland football match. It was never the question of what the outcome would be, just how big the margin³.

The number of the Yes votes cast was 1513, which represented 98.8%.

People here will tell you that they don’t really care how the Argentinean government reacts to this vote, after all, they are used to be ignored by Buenos Aires, but they do hope that the rest of Latin America would take the notice of the referendum result.

 

It means that the Falklands will continue to run its own affaires, but sheltered under the wing of its motherland when it comes to the defense⁷ and foreign policy.

 

I don’t know, maybe they’ll fly away, I personally will pay their flights, and they can go that way next Saturday.

 

The Island’s political leaders now feel they have the mandate⁸, and can work more confidently on the world stage.

 

We will be taking that message to Buenos Aires’ government, say, “Look, self-determination is a fundamental human right, you can’t ignore it”, this is what the people from Falklands said, “Do you have a problem with that?”

 

Independent monitors confirmed the referendum was technically⁹ correct with no interference. Justice is important to the organizers and 92% turn out. It was clear the Falkland speaks with almost one voice.
