 So flamboyant¹ on the pitch, the man who rarely hid his emotions there kept him firmly in check outside the court. The cameras that once recorded this genius, capturing a subdued² figure whose sunglasses couldn't shield him from the flash bulbs, nor hide how * his famous face has become. The court heard how Paul Gascoigne having been in a train from Newcastle when he’s been visiting his sick father, when stressed in a pain from a heap of operation. He got drunk. 

 

The football player got off here at Stevenage. But when security guard, Jack³ Sherrington, saw him staggering across the platform and tried to put him in a wheelchair, Gascoigne swore at him repeatedly and grabbed him by the throat. 

 

The player’s ex-wife and son were with him when the attack happened having been called to the stations to help. A second charge for assaulting Sherrington dismissed, after 46-year-old pleading guilty to attacking the guard, and agreed to pay 100 pounds in compensation. 

 

First capital connectors welcomed that decision, saying violence against staff should never be tolerated.

“Mr. Gascoigne wants to publicly apologize for his actions in that evening. He now wishes, to be left alone to carry on with his recovery.”

 

In response, Mr. Sherrington said, “I’m grateful for and welcome Mr. Gascoigne’s decision to plead guilty today. I’m told that since the incident he has offered his apologies for his behavior, and I fully⁴ accept them. In different ways this has not been easy for either of us and I sincerely hope he gets the help that he needs in the future.”

 

It’s a battle against drink that begins with scenes recreated in goal celebrations like this one. Paul Gascoigne’s talent on the pitch for the likes of arranges spurs in England, matched only by his access of it.

“He is, you know, a real tough football people you’ve found really hard to adjust lives after football, dependent on individual circumstances. I’m just hopping⁶ that, you know, we can get them another cases that come to life, get the life sorted again, the lives after football.  ”    

 

The remorseful⁷ former footballer are leaving court having escaped prison, but still in a grip of addiction⁸ that could cost him his life.
