【英语早间课堂】S desire （that）S (should) do.

 【复习】

Last time we learned two sentence patterns which are "S suppose ( that ) S did." and " S suppose ( that ) S had done" .

第一句表示的意思是对将来或者是现在的情况的一种设想，假设，因此宾语从句中的谓语是did, 即：使用动词的一般过去式来体现虚拟语气。

今天要在此特别补充一点的就是：对将来的事情进行假设的话，谓语还可以由would do这个结构构成, 那么我们可以得到另外一个句型：S suppose ( that ) S would do。

而第二句则是对已经发生了的事情做一种假设，设想，因此宾语从句的谓语是had done,即：使用动词的过去完成时来体现虚拟语气。引导词that 可以省略。

【Exercise I】假如下雨的话，我们还是要去。

【Translation 1】Suppose ( that ) it rained, we would still go.

【Translation 2】Suppose ( that ) it rains, we will still go.

【点评】

1 此句话是对将来情况的一种假设，用句型Suppose that S did.

2 副词放置的位置：still放于实义动词前。

【Exercise II】咱们姑且假设这个消息是真的。

【Translation 1】Let us suppose the news was really true for a moment.

【Translation 2】Let us suppose the news is really true for a moment.

【点评】

1 此句话是对现在情况的假设，因此用句型Suppose that S did.

2短语的运用：姑且的中文意思是指时间段（暂时），因此英文中for a moment的意思和它相近。For a moment是一会儿，片刻的意思。 For a moment he was filled with a sort of exaltation. 一时间他忽然变得趾高气扬起来。For a moment Peter felt a surge of sympathy for the older man. 一刹那间彼得对这位老头油然产生了一种怜悯心。

【Exercise III】没有理由假定这些会严重的不稳定的。

【Translation 1】There is no reason to suppose ( that ) these would be destabilizing .

【Translation 2】There is no reason to suppose ( that ) these will be destabilizing .

【点评】

1 现在分词的运用：destabilizing是destabilize 这个动词的现在分词，相当于形容词，关于这个知识点，请详请参见前期（第80期）的declining的详解，今天就不重复讲了。

2 该句子to suppose ( that ) these would be destabilizing 是动词不定式作定语修饰reason，这里省略了关系副词why。 这个动词不定式中含有宾语从句是：( that ) these would be destabilizing ，由此可见像suppose, order, advise , insist, propose等等这些动词不管在一个句子中做什么成分，只要后面带有宾语从句，就要看其意思来考虑是否使用虚拟语气。

3 suppose和wish一样谓语可以由would + 动词原形构成。

4 此句话是对将来的情况的一种假设，因此使用的句型是：S suppose ( that ) S would do.

【Exercise IIII】假如没有人去过那里的话，会怎么样？

【Translation 1】Suppose ( that ) no one had been there, what then？

【Translation 2】Suppose ( that ) no one was there, what then?

【点评】

1 此句话是对过去情况的一种假设，因此用句型：S suppose ( that ) S had done。

2 What then? 这个口语话短句的意思是：怎么样？怎么办？

【Exercise IV】假如当时我们没有去帮助他，会发生什么事呢？

【Translation 1】Let us suppose ( that ) we hadn't helped him, what would happen?

【Translation 2】Let us suppose ( that ) we didn't help him, what would happen?

上期我们说道了suppose后面的宾语从句可以用虚拟语气，也可以不用虚拟语气，因此以上5道翻译习题就出现上面2中翻译，第一句使用的是虚拟语气，而第二句则使用的是陈述语气。

【今日主题】

And this morning, I would like to talk about another sentence pattern which is : S desire ( that ) S should do. 这个句式是表示某人极其希望某人做某事。

【主题详解】

In this sentence, " desire" means" to wish for" , 意为：渴望，期望。Of course, subjunctive should be used in an objective clause that follows it. ( that ) S should do. 是由that引导的宾语从句，可见虚拟语气体现在本句中的谓语形式为：should + 动词原形。引导词that和情态动词可以省略。

【例句】

1 We all desire we be happy and healthy. 我们都渴望幸福和健康。

2 I desired I had beem a teacher. 我曾经渴望我是一名教师。

3 Fewer people desire they live in the north of this county. 几乎没有人想住在这个国家的北部。

在这里强调一点，desire不能用于任何进行时态中。
