　　1.economic/economical

　　两者均可表示“经济的”，其区别可简单地概括为：

　　①economic主要与“财政”有关

　　eg：The boy left school for economic reasons.

　　这男孩因经济原因而辍学。

　　②economical 主要与“节约”有关。

　　eg：To rent a house is more economical than to buy one.

　　租房比买房更经济。

　　2.ensure/insure

　　① insure：保险，给...投保

　　eg：After signing a contract with a professional baseball team，Jack decided¹ to insure his pitching arm for $1 million.

　　和职业棒球队签约后，杰克决定为他投球的手臂投保100万美元。

　　② ensure：确保

　　eg：Please ensure (that) all lights are switched off.

　　请确保将所有灯都关掉。

　　③当表示"保证"的意思，两者通用，英国人爱用ensure，美国人爱用insure。

　　eg：Our precautions ensured/insured our safety.

　　预防措施保证了我们的安全。

　　3.electric/electrical

　　① electric：电的，用电的，带电的，指任何电动的或发电的装置，被修饰的物体本身可带电。

　　eg：electric light 电灯

　　eg：Please connect the two electric wires.

　　②electrical：电的，与电有关的，电气科学的，指与电有关的事物，被修饰的词本身不能带电。

　　①historic：历史上著名的，具有历史意义的。强调的是事件本身具有的重大意义。

　　②historical：历史上的，有关历史的。强调某个事件曾经的的确确发生过。

　　eg：a colorful historical period 丰富多彩的历史时期

　　(1) lie：说谎；躺，位于。

　　①——作“说谎”的意思

　　过去式，过去分词，现在分词分别是：lied, lied, lying

　　②——作“躺，位于”的意思

　　过去式，过去分词，现在分词分别是：lay, lain, lying

　　eg：He lay under a tree to sleep.

　　他躺在树下休息。

　　(2) lay：放，搁；下蛋。

　　过去式，过去分词，现在分词分别是：laid, laid, laying

　　eg：The dog laid its ears back.

　　6.considerable/considerate

　　①considerable：great/ much 相当多（大）的

　　eg：a considerable income 一笔可观的收入

　　① intense：high in degree 强烈的，剧烈的，高度的

　　eg：have intense interest in sth 对某事有浓厚兴趣

　　② intensive：deep and thorough 精深的，集中的

　　8.raise/rise

　　① raise (vt.)：举起，升起，增加，饲养

　　eg：He raised his voice.

　　eg：Her wages were raised.

　　② rise (vi.)：升起，上升，起床
