COPENHAGEN, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Danish film director Thomas Vinterberg won the annual Nordic Council Film Prize for his latest movie Submarino on Wednesday.
According to a press release from the Nordic Council(北欧理事会), Vinterberg received the prize because of the insightful image of human life in his movie.
"Submarino is a tough but also a deeply moving story of two brothers who are linked together by a fateful(重大的) childhood. The film is about brothers who have adult responsibility imposed upon them - - and the human child as a carrier of social inheritance but also the hope for a better future," wrote the Nordic Council's adjudication committee in the press release.
It added: "It (the movie) deals with themes(题目,主题) such as trauma1, guilt2 and reconciliation3. Submarino is a simple and yet a complex work of art, with a strong manuscript and a stylish4 direction. An elegant, taut5 and effective dramaturgy, acting6 presence and an intelligent use of sound and light contribute to the creation of this insightful image of human life."
Submarino premiered in Denmark in March and has been one of this year's most critically acclaimed8 movies. It won the Critic's Prize 2010 at the Norwegian Film Festival in Haugesund and the main prize at "Film by the Sea 2010" in the Netherlands.
"I am very happy and proud to receive the Nordic Council Film Prize. The field of good films in Denmark and the other Nordic countries is extremely qualified9 and, in addition, I have great respect for the competent forces behind the appraisal," said Vinterberg in a press release.
"I perceive the prize to be not only an appreciation10 of those of us behind Submarino, but of Danish film altogether. A distinction which confirms the strength in, and necessity of creating and supporting Danish film based on cultural criteria11. An encouragement to Danish film to continue to reach out across the country's borders," the director added.
Vinterberg is also known for his revolutionary use of the dogme- genre12, where many modern film techniques are disallowed13. In the dogme-genre, it is prohibited to use various sound effects and most recordings14 have to be made with a hand-held camera.
Vinterberg's movie "The Celebration" won international acclaim7 in 1998, and received the jury prize of Cannes and several awards in the United States.
