BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Pop star Lady Gaga is sued over sales of her wristbands for Japan's earthquake relief efforts, according to media reports Tuesday.
The federal class action
lawsuit1 against Gaga claims that she profited from the sale of her 'We Pray For Japan' wristbands, whose sale Gaga announced within hours of the
devastating2 earthquake and
tsunami3 on March 11 through her official website for 5 U.S. dollars.
The lawsuit was filed in Michigan on Friday by Michigan legal network 1800LAWFIRM while the "Born This Way" singer was in Japan for a benefit concert for victims of the March earthquake and tsunami, according to Reuters.
"While we commend Lady Gaga for her philanthropic efforts, we want to ensure that claims that 'all proceeds will be donated to Japan's earthquake' are in fact true," said Alyson Oliver, an attorney for 1800LAWFIRM.
"Our intention via this lawsuit is to uncover any improprieties committed by Lady Gaga and appropriate the full donations assumed to the victims in Japan."
Gaga is reported to have donated about 3 million dollars to Japan disaster relief through sales of the wristbands and other ventures.
Neither Lady Gaga herself nor her rep gives comment on the lawsuit yet.
Lady Gaga was last month named the most powerful
celebrity4 in the world by Forbes magazine, based on her
earnings5, media visibility and social media popularity.
