Dortmund and Bayern win at German Bundesliga

　　Defending champion and Bundesliga front-runner Borussia Dortmund extended their unbeaten run to 23 matches as they defeated the "Wolves" 3-1 at away Volkswagen Arena².

　　The defending champion cleared the way for the win within the first half as striker Robert Lewandowski and midfielder Ilkay Guendogan doubled the lead although Wolfsburg shocked the guests when striker Mario Mandzukic shortened the score to 1-2 by header six minutes into second half.

　　The host kept it bowling³ to press Dortmund into defence but six minutes before final whistle Wolfsburg defender⁴ Alexander Madlung weakened his side when he booked his second yellow of the match for repeated foul⁵ play. Consequently "BVB" striker Lewandowski slotted home the 3-1 lead to score his 19th goal of the season.

　　Dortmund stays on first position with 66 points while Wolfsburg remains⁶ on ninth position with 40 points. The defending champion encounters chaser Bayern next week to brawl⁷ for first position of the standings.

　　The German record champion Bayern Munich maintains pressure on front-runner Dortmund owing to a brace⁸ by top striker Mario Gomez to seal 2-1 win over Augsburg.

　　With only thirty-nine seconds into the match Gomez shocked the guests from Augsburg with a follow up shot to bring his side the lead.

　　Bayern retracted⁹ and was punished by the visitors as midfielder Ja Cheol Koo nutmegged Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from close distance to level the score with twenty-three minutes on the clock.

　　With beginning of the second, half Bayern started powerful to put things right at the sixty minute as Gomez tapped in from very close range to extend his tally¹⁰ at the goal getter standings to 25 goals.

　　The 2-1 lead by the German giant took the stem out of Augsburg sails thus Bayern wrapped their ninth consecutive¹¹ win in all competitions. Bayern resides on second position with 63 points, three points behind front-runner Dortmund, while Augsburg sticks on fourteenth position with 30 points.

　　Stuttgart came from behind to overrun Mainz 4-1 due to a double by striker Vedad Ibisevic at outsold Mercedes Benz Arena. The visitors from Mainz opened the scoring with only three minutes into the match as midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz converted an awarded foul play penalty.

　　The "Schwaben" remained unfazed and equalized the score through midfielder Tamas Haijnal at the eighth minute. After interval¹² Stuttgart took the 2-1 lead as striker Vedad Ibisevic headed home a cross four minutes into second half.

　　Stuttgart extended the lead to 3-1 as midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic converted a penalty into bottom right. Finally, at the eighty-fifth minute, Vedad Ibisevic sealed his brace and the final 4-1 score.

　　Stuttgart climbs from sixth to fifth position with 43 points, which gives them a UEFA Europa League berth¹³ whereas Mainz stays on eleventh position with 33 points.

　　At other matches on Saturday, Cologne shared points with Bremen after a 1-1, bottom team Kaiserslautern lost 1-2 to Hoffenheim, Freiburg ties with Nuremberg 2-2 and Monchengladbach versus¹⁴ Berlin ended goalless after ninety minutes.

　　The following fixtures¹⁵ are set for Sunday: third positioned Schalke encounters Hannover and Hamburg faces Leverkusen.
