　　One morning last April, Joan was³ lying⁴ in bed when the telephone rang. It washer friend, Dave, who invited⁵ her out for a picnic at the seaside.

Joan was wearing a T-shirt and skirt as² it was quite hot. As she sat⁷ on thebus she looked out of the window. The sun was shining⁸. She saw⁹ a plane goingover a forest¹⁰ and some horses in the fields¹¹.
Before long she arrived at the seaside and met Dave. They went down to thebeach and had¹² their picnic next to a rock. They had sandwiches and crisps¹⁴, andDave painted a picture. They had a lovely day.
