 China will protect the interests of student interns1 from vocational schools by stipulating2 the minimum wage during their internships, the Ministry4 of Education (MOE) announced on last Wednesday.

The salary for student interns should be no less than 80 percent of the probationary5 wage for regular employees in the same position, said a circular co-released by the MOE along with another four central departments.

The regulation is the first of its kind, aimed at avoiding exploitation of students through cheap labor6, the ministry said.

Vocational schools and employers hiring interns are also forbidden from charging deposits of any kind, including salary commissions and management fees, the regulation said.
规定要求,职业院校和实习单位不得向学生收取实习押金、管理费或者其他形式的实习费用。
Student interns should account for no more than 20 percent of total employees in a company, and internships in entertainment venues7 such as bars, night clubs and bath centers are strictly8 prohibited, according to the regulation.
在具体岗位顶岗实习的学生人数不高于同类岗位在岗职工总人数的20%。该规定还严禁安排学生到酒吧、夜总会、洗浴中心等营业性娱乐场所实习。
Interns, vocational schools and employers must sign a tripartite agreement before the internship3 to draw clear lines of responsibility and protect students' rights.
此外,规定还指出,在学生实习之前,职业学校、实习单位、学生应三方签订协议,以此来明确各方的责任,保护学生的权利。
