Another American company moving into China is Wal-Mart. The American store chain is bidding one billion dollars to buy one hundred "hypermarkets" (a combination¹ of supermarket and department store) in China from Trust-Mart, a Taiwanese company. Although Wal-Mart recently pulled out of Germany and South Korea, they hope to become the number one hypermarket chain in China, ahead of the French company Carrefour, which also made a bid for Trust-Mart.
