To look at the tawny⁹ brawn¹⁰ of his lithe¹¹ snaky limbs, you would almost have credited the superstitions¹² of some of the earlier Puritans and half-believed this wild Indian to be a son of the Prince of the Powers of the Air.  看到他那柔软如蛇的四肢上的茶色肌肉,简直教人相信起早期若干清教徒的迷信,而五分相信这个野蛮的印第安人就是魔王的后代。

Tashtego was Stubb the second mate's squire¹³. 塔斯蒂哥是二副斯塔布的随从。

Third among the harpooneers was Daggoo, a gigantic, coal-black negro-savage, with a lion-like tread--an Ahasuerus to behold¹⁴.  在标枪手中名列第三的是大个儿,这个巨人似的,脸膛煤黑的野黑人,走起路来活象一只狮子...看来就象是亚哈随鲁王。

Suspended from his ears were two golden hoops¹⁵, so large that the sailors called them ringbolts, and would talk of securing the top-sail halyards to them.  他两只耳朵挂有两个大金箍,大得水手们都把它叫做螺钉环,说是这两只环环可以用来缚中桅帆的升降索。
