"Argo" wins top honor at SAG Awards

　　The film beat out rivals including "Lincoln," "Silver Linings⁷ Playbook," "Les Miserables" and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel " to claim the title at the 19th annual event held at the Shrine⁸ Exposition Center in Los Angeles.

　　The haul further consolidated⁹ the film's stature¹⁰ as a staunch contender for the best picture Oscar, which came after it garnered¹¹ the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical¹² Motion Pictures at the 24th annual Producers Guild of America Awards overnight.

　　Earlier this month, the CIA-themed film also took home best pictures at the Golden Globes and the Critics' Choice Movie Awards and Affleck also walked home with best director trophy from both awards events.

　　"It has to do with the incredible people who were in this movie," Affleck said when accepting the award onstage. "The people you see on stage, we had more than 150 actors."Daniel Day-Lewis, who portrayed¹³ the 16th U.S. president in Steven Spielberg's biopic "Lincoln" which is a strong contender in the leadup to the 85th Academy Awards, won best actor during the event, thwarting¹⁴ Bradley Cooper of "Silver Linings Playbook," Hugh Jackman of "Les Miserables," Denzel Washington of "Flight" and John Hawkes of "The Sessions."This is the actor's third SAG Award, having won previously¹⁵ for "There Will Be Blood" and "Gangs of New York." He also won the Oscars twice.

　　"It occurred to me that it was an actor that murdered Abraham Lincoln, and therefore somehow it's only fitting that every now and then an actor tries to bring him back to life again," Day-Lewis said when he was accepting the trophy onstage.

　　Jennifer Lawrence who acted opposite Bradley Cooper in "Silver Linings Playbook" won for best leading female actress, beating Jessica Chastain of "Zero Dark Thirty," Marion Cotillard of "Rust¹⁶ and Bone,"Helen Mirren of "Hitchcock" and Naomi Watts¹⁷ of "The Impossible.""Now I have this naked statue ... which means some of you voted for me," the 22-year-old actress said in her acceptance speech. She also thanked the romantic drama's director, David O. Russell, saying that his film has left a lasting¹⁸ impact.

　　Anne Hathaway, who played tortured Fantine in musical "Les Miserables," garnered best supporting actress which is her first SAG honor.

　　"I'm just so thrilled I have dental," she joked to her fellow union members as she accepted the statuette. "I got my SAG card when I was 14. It felt like the beginning of the world.

　　Tommy Lee Jones won the award for best supporting actor for his role as Thaddeus Stevens in "Lincoln." It was also the first SAG award for the 66-year-old veteran. Alan Arkin of "Argo," Javier Bardem of "Skyfall," Robert De Niro of "Silver Linings Playbook" and Philip Seymour Hoffman of "The Master" all failed to claim the title.

　　Dick Van Dyke¹⁹ received the guild's Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony.

　　"Aren't we lucky that we found a line of work that doesn't require growing up?" the 87-year-old actor said.

　　On the television front, ABC's "Modern Family" won its third straight SAG for best ensemble cast in a comedy series, while "Downton Abbey" was named best drama.

　　Best actress and actor in a comedy went to Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin from NBC's "30 Rock," while Claire Danes of "Homeland" and Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad" won the awards for dramas.

　　Fey thanked old friend Amy Poehler who co-hosted the 70th Golden Globe Awards: "Amy I've known you since you were pregnant with Lena Dunham."This is Baldwin's seventh win in a row. "It's the greatest experience I've ever had," he said, thanking Fey and his fellow castmembers.

　　Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad" and Claire Danes of "Homeland" won best actor and actress in a drama series.

　　Julianne Moore won the SAG Award for best actress in a television movie for her role as Sarah Palin in "Game Change." Kevin Costner took home the award for best actor in a TV movie for "Hatfields & McCoys."The ensemble stunt²⁰ performers for the film "Skyfall" and the television drama "Game of Thrones" were also recognized at the event.
