　　"I am deeply shocked and saddened by the outrageous² terrorist attack in Boston yesterday (Monday). This senseless and cowardly act of violence has struck a city that has long stood as the symbol of openness, learning, innovation and enterprise," Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote to U.S. President Barack Obama.

　　"The people of India join me in condemning³ the attack in the strongest terms. We stand in solidarity⁴ and sympathy with the bereaved⁵ families, the injured and the people of the United States. The attack serves as a tragic⁶ reminder⁷ of the evil of terrorism that still threatens our nations and lurks⁸ in our cities," the prime minister added.

　　Singh also offered India's full cooperation to the United States in the investigations⁹ into the attack. "Mr President, in keeping with the excellent cooperation between India and the United States to combat terrorism, we offer you our full support for the investigations into the attack," he wrote.
