WASHINGTON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Vice1 President Joe Biden on Thursday met with visiting Jordanian King Abdullah II in Washington to discuss the Syrian crisis, the White House said in a statement.
Hosting the king for breakfast at the
Naval2 Observatory3, the official residence of the vice president, Biden discussed with him how to advance the political transition to "a peaceful, democratic post-Assad Syria," said the White House.
During the meeting, Biden also underscored the strength of the U.S.-Jordanian relationship, and
reiterated4 the enduring U.S. support for Jordan, the statement added.
President Barack Obama will meet with King Abdullah II on Friday at the White House to discuss "Jordan's political and economic reforms, the
humanitarian5 crisis in Syria, and additional regional issues of
mutual6 concern," according to a previous White House statement.
Several leaders from the Middle East have recently visited or will visit Washington for talks with the U.S. president. Obama just met with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad
Bin7 Khalifa Al-Thani at the White House on Tuesday. He is also expected to meet with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on May 16.
