　　Argentina has a strong commitment to the implementation³ of the "actions needed to avoid having civilian⁴ nuclear energy be misused⁵ for destructive and threatening objectives," Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman pledged at an international meeting Monday.

　　The meeting was held by the International Atomic Energy Agency at its headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

　　Argentina is among the "peace-loving nations," Timerman said. "We know the use of nuclear technologies, especially the full cycle of nuclear fuel, requires not just scientific and technological⁶ excellence⁷, but also enormous supervision⁸ and responsibility in the handling of nuclear materials."

　　The top Argentine diplomat⁹ also referred to nuclear terrorism and the physical protection of nuclear materials, saying that countries like Argentina "cannot remain silent to the anachronistic¹⁰ existence of nuclear weapons and the danger they represent."
