QUITO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said Tuesday that his government will support Bolivian President Evo Morales on whether to accept apologies offered by four European countries that closed airspace to Morales' presidential plane on July 2.
"We will wait for Bolivia's decision. Ecuador will, as always, absolutely support Bolivian President Evo Morales," Correa told a
joint1 press conference with Morales.
Morales has accused Spain, France, Italy and Portugal of closing their airspace to his presidential jet. Those countries suspected that the plane was carrying former U.S. National Security Agency
contractor2 Edward Snowden.
"No one had the right to prohibit the airplane as the presidential aircraft has immunity," said Correa.
Morales said at the press conference that he will evaluate the situation with his cabinet on Wednesday to decide whether to accept the apologies.
During Morales' first visit to Ecuador, the two countries have signed five agreements to boost
bilateral3 ties. The two presidents emphasized the need to deepen regional
integration4, saying Latin America is no longer anyone's backyard.
