The Chinese government has just unveiled a national artificial intelligence development plan, laying out its ambitions to build world-leading technology.The plan is setting the target of China becoming a major center for AI innovation and leading the world in AI technology and applications by 2030.The plan specifies¹ goals for AI development including creating an open and coordinated² system for AI sci-tech innovation, fostering a high-end intelligent economy, building a safe and convenient society, as well as the upgrading of infrastructure³ for Internet, big data and computers.There's been a lot of debate about whether China, not the US, is now leading the global development in artificial intelligence.Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu -- the top three Chinese tech firms -- are all investing heavily in AI research.But at the same time, some industry insiders are suggesting the supply demand ratio of China's AI-related sectors⁴ runs at 1:10, which means there is a huge demand gap here. It's been estimated the demand gap could be as much as 5 million.
