2. Congressional investigators are learning more about what may have led to the rig explosion that sent oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. They say a key safety device, called the blowup preventer, had a hydraulic leak and other problems that probably kept it from working properly.

3. Dutch officials say this boy is the only known survivor of a Libyan plane crash. A flight from South Africa crashed on approach to Tripoli's airport Wednesday morning, killing 103 people. The boy is undergoing surgery for injuries including broken bones.

4. A 22-year-old man may be facing jail time after pretending to be a high school basketball player. Officials say he led a Texas school to the state playoffs last season. Suspicions about his identity arose at an amateur tournament last month.
