[00:-3.00]for years for the Word Solar Car Challenge.
[00:-4.00]We interviewed Marie Logan from Brisbane.

[00:-6.00]What is a solar car?
[00:-7.00]Solar cars are cars that use the sun's energy for power.
[00:-8.00]That means they don't use petrol,
[00:-9.00]diesel or any other fuel,just the sun.
[00:10.00]And why are people interested in solar cars?
[00:11.00]People have been worried about pollution caused by fuels like petrol and diesel for a long time now.
[00:12.00]Solar cars are clean and safe,so there is a lot of interest in them.
[00:13.00]You've been designing solar racing cars for a long time.
[00:14.00]When did you start?
[00:15.00]When I was at university,I've designed five or six different cars so far.
[00:16.00]And I've been taking part in races for about four years.
[00:17.00]How many races have you taken part in?
[00:18.00]Let's think.Six.We've won two of them!
[00:19.00]Where do these races take place?
[00:20.00]Well,the one I like best crosses the whole of Australia from North to South.
[00:21.00]It's about 3,000 km long!
[00:22.00]Wow!How long does that take?
[00:23.00]These days the fastest cars can do it in four days.
[00:24.00]And what have you been doing recently?
[00:25.00]I've been building a new car with a team from Queensland University.
[00:26.00]We've done a lot o work on it,but we haven't finished yet.
[00:27.00]And you've been writing a book about solar cars.
[00:28.00]Well,so far I've only written the first few chapters!
[00:29.00]I want people to realise the potential of solar cars.
[00:30.00]But a lot of people think that solar cars are too slow or unreliable.
[00:31.00]How can you persuade them of the advantages of solar cars?
[00:32.00]Solar cars are getting better all the time.
[00:33.00]They have reached speeds of nearly 80 k.p.h.
[00:34.00]In tests,one car we built has averaged over 40 k.p.h,even in cloudy weather.
